Halo
Public Art
Can Vu Bui, Lane Rick and Sol Condo
Designed by Office of Things and fabricated by One Hat One Hand, Halo is a suspended light fixture spanning 18 feet above the bar at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The piece is composed of eight illuminated segments and brass fittings. It shifts from a chalky daylight translucence to a warm evening glow.
The circular form references the building's postmodern history and former life as Condé Nast's headquarters. It mirrors the hotel's architectural motifs, from rounded shapes to the ring road layout.
Halo is fabricated from a biopolymer derived from plants and suspended with cable tension. It balances historical context with contemporary materials and clean precision. The piece serves as a sculptural anchor for a space reimagined by Curioso as part of a $40M transformation into a boutique hotel.
We partnered with Fab.Pub to 3D print the eight tubular diffusion rings that compose the 4.6-meter form. Their robotic arm with six axes used a custom algorithm that adapts layer heights to curvature, enabling cantilevered geometries with structural integrity and visual lightness. The bespoke translucent PLA, treated to resist flames, diffuses light evenly and warmly.
A floating circle of light, Halo is a quiet statement of atmosphere, collaboration, and place.
