San Francisco Office
Gensler & Principal Builders
Gensler and Principal Builders approached us to fabricate custom furnishings and placemaking installations for the design firm’s San Francisco office. Gensler drew design inspiration for its new space from museum galleries and fine art installations. With a focus on a collaborative space to foster a creative work environment, they asked One Hat One Hand to translate their vision into functional, sculptural features. Moreover, they challenged us to source reclaimed materials to meet LEED Platinum building requirements.
The Reception Hut welcomes you when you enter the space. With a Calacatta marble desk and a custom polished and distressed aluminum backdrop, the mix of materials creates a harmonious relationship between the dissimilar mediums. In addition to serving as a reception point, it’s fully integrated with electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration, the Hut features a full-service beverage tap wall.
The Team Zones are two massive custom-suspended grid structures of aluminum H-Beam to delineate team workspaces and create a center of collaboration for the office. We tailored the grid system based on 3D scans of the space and meticulous surveys. Tasked with finding and sourcing local material with a contextual background, we selected 100-year-old pine used in the construction of Treasure Island itself, a small man-made island in the Bay between San Francisco and Oakland.
The 40 ' Media Wall was designed and built in relation to the Reception Hut with similar custom aluminum polished shelving and paneling. One Hat One Hand created the wall with an integrated coffee station, millwork storage, art hanging panels, media center and LED-lit shelving to showcase architectural models and objects of inspiration.
